Compatriots to be proud of. The DAMSS FIBERART! Part 1

Hi, all!

Finally back after a few months,
I am proud to introduce you an extraordinary couple of Italian textile artists: the DAMSS Fiberart

Daniela (chemical engineer) and Marco (architect) design and create together their quilts with energy and enthusiasm in their Laboratory in Milan. Monumental artworks, up to 13 mt in length.

"As a couple, our team works well together because each of us has aptitudes and knowledge that greatly complements one another skills. Our work’s main trends are in many ways connected to sculpture, architecture and perspective. We have been making 3-Dimentional creations using textile fibres resulting in clothing articles similar to totems or sculptures. (...)Other works are made by using a hand-loom which allows us to play with warp and weft so to create the most original fabric incorporating, for instance, macramé and other different patterns.Recently we took up landscaping and urban perspectives according to our respective engineering and architectural vocational training."

Who is a true artist?

The one who is able to shape both the materials and the conventional tools. One of Damss' trump card: their capability to modify their sewing machine foot according to their specific needs.

Now... Let's have a virtual tour throughout their artworks.

Ready... Set... Go!

Dome De Milan. Cm 160 x 160. A lovely view of the Dome of Milan, made with precious woolen fabrics coming from Italian Haute Couture. This artwork required several hours of machine free motion sewing and quilting with 12 and 28 wt Aurifil Makò Cotton and 12 wt Aurifil WoolTo give a lighter note, the DAMSS made an impressionist sky with shirting fabrics, pieced and sewn with different colors of 12wt Aurifil Makò Cotton.

Flowers. Cm 240 x 220. For this artwork, they used a yellow construction-grid to lighten up the vivid subject. To increase the texturing, they treated synthetics fabrics with their special method "hot textiles", then they pieced and sewed all together with strong Aurilux polyester threads, offered by Aurifil

NYC - La Nuit. Cm 160 x 160. Looks like a painting. Looks like a snapshot. Nope. It’s a new form of art. A deep portrait of the City par excellence - like you’ve never seen.
Rendering the light effect of the metropolis at night is extremely difficult. Marco and Daniela chose elegant fabrics coming from the Italian haute couture. They shaped, treated and processed the materials using their experimental techniques. Finally, they sealed and signed their artwork with Aurifil threads.

That's all for now! Stay tuned for Part 2
